A Current Transformer (CT) is an electrical device designed to safely measure or monitor high electrical currents. It converts a large primary current flowing through an electrical installation into a lower, proportional secondary current that can be easily used by measuring, protection, or control equipment.
Current transformers are widely used in electrical networks, industrial installations, railway infrastructure, and power distribution systems.
They are used to:
- accurately measure electrical current;
- supply energy meters and measuring instruments;
- provide electrical isolation between power circuits and control or monitoring devices.
