| the magnetic alloys used by TCT | wound magnetic toroïd | Tape wound magnetic cores | Machined and stamped magnetic parts TCT has a research and design department which determines the type of magnetic cores used in the final application. Its experience in manufacturing magnetic cores enable it to develop and better understand the widest possible range of applications. The wound magnetic core is the heart of the coiled passive component.
The magnetic alloys used by TCT For our manufactures we use magnetic alloys from Europe, the USA and Asia. top of page 1. Wound magnetic toroïd ................................................................................................................................................................... We manufacture toroïd based on various alloys. These toroïd can be impregnated in a vacuum and under pressure, coated and/or cut. DIMENSIONAL TOLERANCES OF Fe-Ni, Fe-Co and Fe-Si TOROID After thermal treatment, the core may have :
• ovalizations of outer diameter D and inner diameter d
• warping in the direction of the width C
Manufacturing and tolerances are listed below (diameters and tolerances expressed in mm): | inner Ø d | outer Ø D | height h | Thickness H | | 10 = D < 25 | - 0.5 | + 0.6 | + 0.4 | ± 0.4 | | 25 < D < 50 | - 0.5 | + 1 | + 0.6 | ± 0.6 | | 50 = D < 75 | - 0.8 | + 1.3 | + 0.8 | ± 0.8 | | 75 = D < 100 | - 1 | + 1.5 | + 1 | ± 1 | | 100 = D < 150 | - 1.3 | + 2 | + 2 | ± 1.2 | | 150 = D < 250 | - 1.5 | + 3 | + 2.5 | ± 1.4 | | 250 = D < 350 | - 2 | + 4 | + 3 | ± 1.6 | Iron-nickel toroïds : They are used in transformer and current or voltage sensor applications. Their weak coercive field and their permeability enable greater precision of measurement. These toroïds can be supplied in various versions : bare (without protection), coated (protected with epoxy resin) or in a plastic or aluminium case. TCT also offers clients magnetic toroïd that can be cut in various places with calibrated air gaps. Iron-cobalt toroïds : They are used in power-supply transformer applications and operate at a very high induction level so that the weight and volume of the component can be kept down. Choice of finish idem as above. Iron-silicon toroïds : They are used in power transformer applications. These toroïds are currently used in the manufacture of passive components for the electronic industry and for the general public. Choice of finish idem as above. Nano-crystalline toroïds : These are used in measurement applications and in the manufacture of power transformers. Thanks to their low loss rates, their high saturation level (1.25 T) and their weak coercive field strength (< 10 mA/cm), they represent the best compromise in terms of cost, weight and volume. They replace ferrites or wound cores. They can be supplied coated or encased. top of page
2. Tape wound magnetic cores .................................................................................................................................................................. TCT produces a variety of tape wound magnetic cores with various magnetic alloys, according to specific requirements. These cores can be varnish-impregnated in a vacuum and under pressure and also cut.
We guarantee magnetic values to meet your specification, also after cutting, grinding and with or without air gaps. We meet magnetic specifications for interrupted circuits by implementing techniques which create air gaps ranging from a few microns to several tens of millimetres.
Standard range of cut cores complying DIN 41 309 with two specific qualities: standard quality and superior quality.
